The Runner

My name is Kerry and I ran the 212th Boston Marathon on behalf of Children’s Hospital Boston and the Miles for Miracles Team.

I live in Newton, Massachusetts – just a few short steps from Heartbreak Hill.

As a former Children’s patient (since age 3!), I was thrilled to be on the team and participate in the Patient Partner Program because all children deserve the world-renowned treatment that Children’s provides. The money I raised (almost $7,000!) will help children and families just like mine weather the emotional, physical and financial challenges of illness and injury, and the inspiration the Children’s patients offer will far surpass that.

My patient partner is a sweet, almost 2-year-old girl named Jayla. Jayla and her parents Jenn and Jason have been handed a pretty tough medical situation, but their love for each other, along with the support of the Children’s Hospital community has helped them take it one day at a time and enjoy each moment they have together.

When I’m not on the roads or the treadmill, you can find me reading, writing, practicing yoga, playing tennis, taking photos, cheering on the Boston College football team, catching an independent film, scouring vintage clothing shops, dining out with friends, riding the waves of Humarock Beach with my family or fussing over my sweet niece.

Kerry – best of luck in Boston!! I completed my first 1/2 marathon this past summer in Budapest. Good to see others are “afflicted” with this running thing!

This is my brief detailing of my training leading up to the run:

Love the blog…I laughed out loud (LOL) many times…you just may have captured my thoughts and feelings on this endeavour better than “The Spirit of the Marathon”. Glad to have entertained you for 16 and looking forward to 18!
